Biography of Ryan Sheckler
Good morning teachers and classmates, today I’m going to talk about Ryan Sheckler, I choose this topic because he is my favorite skater and he is my example to continuing.
He was born in December 30th, in the year of 1989 in San Clemente –California, the city where surfing erupted in the 60s, which eventually fueled the birth and life of skateboarding, he has two brothers Kane and Shane, his father is Randy Sheckler who is mechanical engineer and his mother is Gretchen who manages his career.
All his friends call him by his nickname: “Shecks”. At the age of 18 months he found the skateboard of his father and he started to skate at the skatepark that his father constructed in his house. With the time he practiced skate 22 hours a week, he won a gold medal at the age of 13 at the 2003 X Games.
Sheckler grew up in California and began competing in amateur events in 1996, and by the time he was 8 years old he had his first sponsor. In 2003 he became the youngest skateboarder to turn pro, and ended the year with victories at the X Games, the Gravity Games, the Vans Triple Crown and the Slam City Jam, he strucked the audience with his skill and ambition. He is a star on MTv in his proper program “Life of Ryan”. In the competitions all recognize him because of his fascinating kickflip and because he has his last name tattooed across his back.
Also he enjoys practicing skateboarding, motocross, golf, snowboarding and surfing, Ryan Sheckler took the skateboarding world by storm, he is sponsored by Etnies, Volcom, Oakley, Red Bull, Plan B and Panasonic.
His favorite musical artists are Guns and Roses and The Cure, his favorite movie is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and his favorite subject in school is science.
Tony Hawk will always be the “Godfather” of skateboarding for him, but Ryan has all the talents and potential to be just as good, Ryan has participated on Tony Hawk´s videogames.
Sheckler has appeared in the movies Grind, Dishdogz, and MVP 2: Most Vertical Primate. In skateboarding maybe you are going to fall down so you can learn what was bad so Ryan has broken his arm during the practice for the Vans Triple Crown competition and later found out that he also broke his elbow in the opposite arm earlier, but a interesting phrase that he said was:
"Don’t ever give up. You gotta keep trying, and never give up."
In conclusion Ryan Scheckler has showed that there is no age for win or for becoming professional, he said: “Whenever you fall down you must get up and continue trying it”, this is a good spirit for all the skaters, because skateboard is not only a sport it´s a passion.
Thank you
